Slake Durability Test Apparatus
Slake Durability Apparatus is a professional laboratory equipment designed to determine the loss of strength of rocks exposed to climatic conditions over time, using simulated wetting-drying cycles. It is particularly used to analyze the weathering behavior of weak rocks, shales, and similar soft rock types.
The device is based on the principle of first drying the rock samples and then testing them in a water environment within rotating drums for specific periods. When the test is repeated at different time intervals, the weight loss of the sample is measured, and the Slake Durability Index is calculated. This method reliably reveals the performance of rocks under natural environmental conditions.
Slake Durability test is performed according to the ASTM D4644 standard. The test duration (standard 10 minutes) can be monitored via a digital display. The drums rotate at 20 revolutions per minute (20 rpm), and the water level is adjusted to be 20 mm below the drum axis. The device is equipped with two stainless steel drums, 140 mm in diameter and 100 mm in length, with a 2 mm mesh opening.
The drums are easily assembled and cleaned thanks to a quick-release mechanism. Transparent water tanks allow for easy monitoring of the water level during testing.
