Sand Cone Test Set
The Sand Cone Density Test is an economical and reliable soil testing method used to determine the degree of soil compaction in situ. This test measures the in-place density of compacted fine-grained or coarse-grained soils to calculate the percentage of compaction.
The Sand Cone test set consists of a galvanized double-metal cone, a plastic sand bottle, and a flanged perforated metal base plate.
Test Application
A hole is drilled in the area to be tested.
A soil sample is removed, dried(in an oven), and weighed with an Electronic Balance.
The hole is filled with dry sand using a sand cone apparatus.
The volume of the hole is calculated by measuring the amount of sand used.
The soil density is determined in situ.
